President's Letter - August 2006

Dear Chapter Members,
Don’t you just love a surprise? No, not the kind of surprise that you get when you return home from a weekend away and find your house flooded. No, definitely not that kind
of surprise. I mean a surprise party, in which the person is truly, happily, blown away. Such was my sister’s reaction to her 50th birthday surprise party given (brilliantly) 2 weeks prior to her real birthday. Now that’s a good surprise. We too, have a fun surprise coming up August 11th for our chapter meeting. Even I, Madame President, am not privy to what the surprise is exactly, but Karen Jorgenson tells me that it will be fun…and I tend to believe her. So…..come for the meeting and stay for the surprise class. Looking forward to seeing many of you there.

Now for the informational items. Due to my sister’s surprise party and birthday…I did not attend this year’s SALI convention. However, I don’t plan on missing next year’s. Here’s the scoop:
Next year’s SALI convention will be held on July 16-22 in San Francisco at the Airport Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Your opinion counts…read on.

Hi Everyone,
I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Karen Osborn and I am your SALI Secretary. With convention right around the corner and your schedules out, there is so much excitement and enthusiasm that I would like to draw on that and invite you all to share your ideas for SALI with me. What do you think would make SALI a better organization? How can we improve convention, communications, education, expo? Anything! ANYTHING!! Please help us, your Board of Directors, help you, our members!
If you have anything you would like to say, go to www.sali.org and share it with me!!! You can find me if you click on Board of Directors and click on my email contact information, then write to me directly. I will then present your input to your Board for discussion.
I look forward to working with you to make SALI all we want and need it to be!!

Sincerely,
Karen Osborn
SALI Secretary

A job possibility:

I am forwarding this to all the California chapters in hopes that some of you might be interested in contacting this company for more information on this and other projects they may have to offer.

Patt Crown
SALI Office Coordinator

Hello,

We are a small artisan surfaces company in Brooklyn, NY and all of the artisans that work with us are SALI members. We are currently doing the walls and ceilings of a number of rooms at a large residence in Santa Barbara, California and are looking for additional decorative painters and venetian plasterers to finish out the job for the next two weeks. I wondered if you knew of any people that you could refer us to, either in the New York area or in California. We do need people as soon as possible, so if you could get back to me quickly I would much appreciate it. Below I have attached a more thorough description of what we are looking for.

Many thanks,

Annie Hughes
