President's Letter, October 2006

Happy fall to all of our members!! It seems like yesterday that my son and daughter-in-law were married and I was putting their wedding pictures in my newsletter. It’s hard to believe that it has been a year already!! Time flies when you’re having fun. As a chapter, we have accomplished many goals this year. We have completed a survey of chapter members’ priorities and interests. Some of those results have already been implemented….such as more hands-on activities during meetings and weekend workshops. Our next meeting on Oct. 10th will be glass-etching, which should be fun for all who attend. On October 21st, Rebecca Parsons will be teaching a business workshop at my home. Even if you do not have a decorative painting business at this time, it still will be an informative day that you might not want to miss. I am looking forward to both these events!!
Last year, we painted gourds, used mixed art media to make beautiful canvas pictures; learned to make rubber molds, tried our hands at “One-Stroke” painting, embellished photographs, visited the School of Italian Plasters, tried crusty plaster finishes and the new Shimmerstone and just last month, attempted portrait drawing. Now, if that’s not a tribute to our wonderful program chair, Vicki Schultz, then I don’t know what is.
At our last board meeting, we decided that we also need to try to get some of our professional decorative painters more classes to bring them back to the fold. Remember….you can be a part of planning and implementing new ideas for the group. Please contact Julie Young (in your membership directory) if you are willing to serve on the next board or on the nominating committee.
See you on the 10th!!
Audrey
