President's Letter, December 2006
Dear Chapter Members,
I have never been one to accept change readily. I like structure, as I have always been primarily left-brained. I’m not big on political change…unless it’s to my liking. I’m not good at family changes…divorce, death, disease (the 3 d’s), but then again, who would be? It has been a very difficult move for me to change careers from speech pathologist to decorative painter. I have fought it with tooth and nail.
There comes a time in everyone’s life, when change needs to be accepted. Perhaps it is ok that my older son is dating a vegan. Maybe a DIET is the only way to actually lose the pounds (sigh), maybe I really need to treat my business as a business and not a hobby.
Maybe my husband is actually right about a few things (double sigh).
At this festive time of the year, I also need to accept some changes. The house doesn’t need to be perfect for our Christmas Open House. It’s ok to go out to my husband’s holiday party on the first night of Hanukkah (I do both). I don’t need to spend a fortune on gifts, but I do need to take the time to think about what each gift recipient needs and what I can give them that is unique and special.
As a chapter, we need to look at and accept some changes too. It was quite a shock to myself and those attending last month’s meeting to find out that we were “kicked out” of our meeting room!! As this was a problem the month before, I had called the management company that schedules the community center room and was ASSURED that we had the room, at least for the next year. You could imagine my surprise when another group had our room for November’s meeting. I told the security people that I spoke to Mike, 4 weeks ago and we were set. Unfortunately, the management company was taken over by another company 2 weeks after I spoke to Mike the “Manager that was”. The way it stands now is that the new management company has no records from the old management company and will not be booking any groups until January. We do have the room in January…..that is, unless this company is superceded by a new one. I mentioned (ok…I deliriously repeated), that we had this room at this time for 12 years. The new manager said to call him in January. I really don’t like changes. Hopefully, all will work out.
Some good changes will be in effect in the coming year. Julie Young will be our new President, Cassandra Schram and Vivian Salazar will co chair Programs, I will be doing membership (you can call me madam membership). We still need a treasurer. Please let us know at or before the next meeting if you are interested. I do know that our next president and program co chairs will infuse our group with new vitality. I know that I am looking forward to serving with our next Madam President on the new board.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at our holiday party on December 12th!! Thank you to Mary-Helen for offering her home for the festivities.
Happy Holidays!
Audrey
